  • Apply most patches – but avoid two

    To recap my recent recommendations…

I recommend that you install all currently available Windows and Office security patches, except these two:

The KB 960715 killbit patch, which seems to zap some programs, and
The Autorun patch, KB article 953252 for Vista and KB article 967715 for WinXP, 2000, and Server 2003.

    Other than that, patch away.

    1. Ref your latest post 5 Mar 2009

      From Windows Update

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847)

      Should the above be patched

    2. Yes. Either that, or remove .NET Framework from your system (which ain’t a bad idea, unless you really need it for some application).

I hate to say it, but if you have .NET Framework installed, you really do need to get it updated.

    3. As with the .NET Framework 3.5 patch, you did not originally warn not to install the AutoRuns Patch (KB 967715 for Windows XP). I have installed it and everything seems to be working OK, but you really should issue these warnings before recommending readers to apply all outstanding patches (except for the Active X Killbits Patch). This makes two patches you did not warn about in your original February MS DEFCON-3 original status update post.
