  • Firefox 3.0.13 and 3.5.2 have been released

As Woody continues to urge you folks to use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer, download and install the latest security releases of the Firefox web browser to protect yourselves from recent major security exploits.

The second security bug fix release of Firefox 3.5 (aka. 3.5.2) can be obtained here.

And for those who want to stick to using Firefox 3.0 instead of upgrading to Firefox 3.5, get Firefox 3.0.13 here.
Mozilla will offer security releases of Firefox 3.0 until sometime in January 2010. After that date, you will have to upgrade to Firefox 3.5 or better.

    1. it may be just my computer BUT following the links for the 3.0.13 I am taken to a link to download 3.5.2.

When I clicked Help to check for updates the same thing happened.

    2. Firefox upgraded for me and notified me it was done.

    3. Woody-

I just updated Firefox and I am loving this browser. It’s totally cool!

Say, how about a post from you on which Firefox add-ons are the best, a must for those of us using this browser.

      Thanks!

    4. Also update Java Runtime (JRE 6, Update 15). Manually remove the folders indicated by Secunia PSI for the older JRE plugins in your Mozilla Firefox Folder under Programs. JRE does not automatically remove these older instances when upgrading. And remove any other nonstandard locations of the older JRE as indicated by PSI.

    5. Mozilla is really pushing Firefox 3.5, although it is not mandatory to upgrade right now. (The deadline is January, 2010.) But users of Firefox 3.0.x will be directed to the FF 3.5.2 download by default. Watch out for that if you are not ready for FF 3.5 just yet. I think Google still has links for the Version 3.0.x downloads. I’m pretty sure Download.com (formerly CNet Downloads) still offers a genuine and safe download option for FF 3.0.x. But you may have to look hard for it.

While you’re at it, remember to update Java Runtime (JRE 6, Update 15). When you do so, run Secunia PSI. Firefox saves some files in a special folder which will retain an older, insecure version of JRE. Follow the path PSI shows you to the folder. There may be more than one of these if you have never cleaned them out. Pay very close attention to the exact hexadecimal numbers given in the folder names. My point is, you will not be safe until you manually clear these older folders from Firefox. Retain only the most recent folder in this group. Firefox has never crashed on me for lack of the old folders.

Example: c:/windows/program files/mozilla firefox/…(and then the crazy hex-numbers). PSI does not make this removal easy, but with care, it can be done safely.

(BTW, I sense that the new Firefox 3.5.2 runs faster at some web sites, and launches faster than the previous version (3.5.1). Maybe that’s just on my computer.)

Other locations may also retain the old Java versions. Secunia PSI will detect and show paths for these instances as well, and most of them can also be removed safely.

    6. The Firefox download links work just fine on my computer and this public computer where I am now. They do go to the correct Mozilla page. Just scroll down the table of Local Versions until you see “English (US)” and the Windows version. Click and it goes just fine.

    7. same here, rc primak. the Firefox versions 3.0.13 and 3.5.2 download links both work correctly on all my machines. don’t know if Bob Parks has attempted to download either or both of the Firefox browsers again or whether or not he has been successful in obtaining them.

do upgrade Java to version 6 Update 15 AND install/update Adobe Flash Player to either version 9.0.246.0 or 10.0.32.18 to resolve the latest security issues with these apps.
