I’m still not a big fan of Bing, Microsoft search engine-cum-revenue generator with cash for clicks enhancements. (It’s been subverted: See the “Breaking Bing Cashback” article and the original post in Google’s archives.)

Anyway, Bing has updated its maps, and I’m still underwhelmed. Just like everybody else, the first place I looked with the new, improved Bing maps is my house and home town – Patong, Phuket, Thailand. The results are dismal. Google Earth isn’t perfect, but it’s still head and shoulders above Bing.

    1. Wood Dog,

I have to disagree with you about Bing Maps being “dismal”.Come on; it’s not as bad as that. I’ll admit that the image resolution is relatively poor, but the “Bird’s Eye” view from either a north, south, east, or west perspective is a very cool feature. That’s what sold it to me, anyway.

I’m not a fan of Google Earth at all. It’s ponderously slow (at least on my machine), and completely napalms my data allowance. Google Street View, however, is the Dog’s Bo!!ocks. Literally right up my street.

Bought your Windows 7 All-In-One book the other day. Really great stuff. I’m getting a netbook in the January sales so I’m swatting up.

      Nice One Wood Dog

    2. Thx.

    3. Woody,although I’m reading about this a couple of
weeks after the post date, I have to disagree with
both you and poster Maghullyback. As a photogrammetrist (aerial photography mapping)using
close range aerial photography, the resolution spoken about is about the best you can get with
such applications. I find in use of the 2 together,
makes up for lack of capabilities each one has towards the other. The main issue I have is having
to reset the pan after zooming or rezooming.
Neither zoom in well enough, that’s where the use
of ” ctl – or + ” with firefox comes in handy.
Bing and google are clumsy in general use but
together, they work just fine considering all in all without getting into alot of tech details.
