Thanks to the wondrous talents of David Weinraub and Seth Bareiss, AskWoody’s up and running in a form that’s somewhat, uh, less 1980s. Hard to believe that I’ve been blogging since July 2004 – using some pretty antiquated tools.

I’ll be fleshing out the site as time permits. Like most Windows book writers, I’m buried deep in Windows 7, so I don’t get up for air as often as I should. But you can always send me mail at the usual address – the one that’s listed at the beginning of all my books. If you’ve forgotten it, just click on the envelope icon in the upper right corner of this page.

I originally disabled comments on this blog, but then changed my mind. Spam has always been a huge problem on AskWoody, but David and Seth assure me that the new WordPress bozo filters will keep the junk down to a manageable level.

I’m very excited that the Lounge just made the leap to new software. It’s an amazing achievement. That’s where my “community” has always been, and always will be.

Anyway, kick back and let me know what you think. I’m very new to WordPress, but David and Seth can help me figure this beast out. They don’t call me a Dummy fer nuthin’.

    1. Well, I think the makeover is great, but I might be a bit biased… ;-)

    2. Hi Woody

Would like to comment on the lounge but I can’t get past the pop up explanation that explains the changes. There is no close button and the background is faded out. Any suggestions?

    3. I think the makeover is pretty, although the type is a bit light for ancient eyes (with eyeglasses). Seems easy to use. (This older “dummy” was originally scared at the change.) Had fun visiting links, which seem more highlighted, visible, now.

    4. Thanks Woody for the new look. You are right — the old look was rather 80’s-ish. Finding items will be easier, and the quality and quantity of Windows PAtch information seems unabated. As a future Windows 7 user (Aren’t we all?) I appreciate your efforts here even while you are hard at work on what will probably be my own introduction to Windows 7 — your upcoming book. Keep up the good work!

Now, when can we expect to see the New Lounge up and running?

    5. PS — FYI, the link now visible in the top area of the right-hand (blue) margin, under the Search Box, does lead directly into
Woody’s Lounge, and the look there is nicer too.

    6. Woody,

The makeover is GREAT! I’m doing printing and photography in Hawai`i these days which meant that I had to expand the numbers of things not understood to include Leopards and MacIntosh. Phew!

As a VERY FRIENDLY suggestion, it would be most welcome of folks with your down-t0-earth attitude and abilities would put up a separate site to explore the mysteries of Adobe and Apple and A–h—s because the field is littered with them. Nobody in that crowd ever had a real job!

Thank you for all the good sense you have spread around in these many years.

      I think they fixed it…

The new Lounge is up and running! An amazing makeover…

    9. I love the new look. I think it looks much “cleaner.” I’ve been using the lounge since 2001 and didn’t realize how crippled I would be without it – just one day down and I was hyperventillating! Glad it’s back. Thank you to all who put in so much time on the boards. It is my lifeline!

    10. I have checked out the new Lounge and I wholeheartedly approve of the new design! My profile and everything are set up, and the HTML and emoticons seem to work great. The Assistant Popup is also very handy. Thank you and Brian Livingston for the makeover!
