although Firefox 4 Beta 3 will be coming out soon, either by the end of this week or sometime next week.
as always, I don’t recommend Firefox 4 beta 2 for normal end users as there are still some bugs to be worked out.
@Jerry: could be a problem with FF4b2’s new extensions/addons feature. I suggest you go back to using the official Firefox 3.6.x series and wait for the final release of Firefox 4 to come out sometime near the end of this year.

Just in: Firefox 4 Beta 2 will NOT work under Windows 2000, although Beta 1 did run under it.
See the following bug reports on FF4b2 “breaking” Win2k support:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=577486
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=582700However, the upcoming Firefox 4 Beta 3 should work under Win2k. Though realize that Mozilla will at some point will abandon Win2000 support in a future version of Firefox.

I don’t like the idea of silent updates! And I’m sure many who visit this site won’t either.
See:

@Tristan: Like with woody advocating to turn of Windows Automatic Updates, I suggest you do the same for Firefox; disable Firefox’s ability to automatically check for and install updates, then you won’t see Firefox silently updating itself anymore.

Firefox 4.0 Beta 3 now posted here. Beta 3 should now work under Windows 2000 for sure as beta 2 didn’t work under it.
