June Black Tuesday patch clobbering SharePoint servers
Posted on June 17th, 2010 at 22:49 10 commentsLooks like MS10-039 is taking out a wide swath of Microsoft SharePoint Server systems.
It’s a complicated problem, with no simple solution. Compounding the problem is the fact that you can’t uninstall the security patch.
I have a more detailed look over on my InfoWorld blog.
Maybe Microsoft will fix it. Or maybe not. Amazing, eh?

Has there been any reported affect when MS10-039 has been installed on workstation clients?

Woody –
Just wanted to drop a note about your InfoWorld post…(doing it here since I don’t have an InfoWorld account)
Please note that the link you describe as “Microsoft’s SharePoint TechNet blog” actually leads to a thread at Microsoft’s TechNet community forums, a free support site where anyone can post and respond to questions and issues, not an official Microsoft blog site or authoritative source on SharePoint content. The users you refer to as “Bloggers” are IT Pros, admins, and developers who use SharePoint on a daily basis around the world and do not necessarily have a direct affiliation with Microsoft.
The Microsoft SharePoint Product Team’s blog is found at http://blogs.msdn.com/SharePoint, and I would expect that to be the authoritative source of information on this issue if Microsoft decides to make an official statement regarding it. I’m not saying that what you’re reporting isn’t an issue, but I did want to make you aware that what you’re referencing as a source is not described accurately.

So far I haven’t seen any major cries of pain, but I’m still skeptical. Wait a week…

@Herb -
.NET updates are always a pain in the neck. Wait until I raise an all-clear.

I’m confused about the June patches (sorry! I’m new). Is DEFCON still at level 2? I see that at the top of the page, but I don’t know if that’s the actual status, or if that’s an example of what the alerts mean/look like.

I’m about to change the MS_DEFCON level. Hang on.
