It’s interesting to look at how Google and Microsoft both handled recent failures in the cloud.

See my InfoWorld Tech Watch blog.

For the last 3 days I have been able to access my Hotmail site, but not do anything once I get there. New mail keeps appearing, but can’t be opened. When I looked at a website, a notice about similar complaints said the thread had been closed. (They don’t want anyone to know how widespread the problem is?) Have you heard of this? In case it would help anyone with the same problem, I downloaded Thunderbird and it will read the mail.

I haven’t heard of it. You should complain LOUDLY on the Microsoft support forum, http://windowslivehelp.com/product.aspx?productid=1

I just checked my windows update and they’re recommending that I update my graphics card driver, in the optional updates.

Should I or shouldn’t I do this when you give us the all clear to update?

    4. Insecure people and companies often find it hard to to face up to a problem when something goes wrong.

Though I’m not a MS basher I have realized that they are adverse to admitting any type of problem up front. This type of behavior works against them and any goodwill that they have with their customers.

    5. For some reason every other time I go into my Hotmail Trash Can I get a message saying Hotmail has been upgraded and to log out and in again.

Surely they can’t be upgrading the servers every 30secs or so can they?

    6. Hey. I installed Mozilla Thunderbird about 9 months age and I love it! No ad’s (those are terrible) and the best thing is, no dealing with the Microsoft cloud and their bad e-mail service!

I also use Mozilla Firefox and made it my default browser and never looked at IE again!

I never update drivers from MS Update. I always go to the card manufacturer – and even then, I obey the old axiom, “Ain’t broke, don’t fix.”
