  • Microsoft Update Catalog: One patch dropped, Win10 1803 SSU re-issued

Posted on September 13th, 2018 at 07:47 woody Comment on the AskWoody Lounge

Take a look at the “2018-09” entries on the Windows Update Catalog.

Last night there were 127 of them. This morning there’s only 126. No idea which one was dropped.

Also, the current list shows a new publication date for KB 456655, the SSU “Servicing stack update for Windows 10, version 1803: September 11, 2018.” The KB article hasn’t been changed. It still shows a “Last updated” date of Sept. 11.

    Anybody know what’s going on?

Probably not even a single person on this planet…

OT, but what is the definition of “transparency“?

Not sure if this helps but yesterday, Sept 12, that 1803 update ran all day and used about 5 GB, yes gigabytes, of my bandwidth. Finally got disgusted and rebooted to stop it. Then Windows Update came back with an error code. Tried again and got same error. Then went to Microsoft Update catalog and saw 4 manual downloads for the 1803. Downloaded those manually in less than 100 MB and 10 minutes and now Win 10 is working fine. Now I am seriously thinking of buying a Chrome Book next time. Also had to disable Service Host Delivery Optimization for using GB’s of bandwidth eveytime I turn on the Laptop.

It seems that if an update fails to install, Windows junks everything it downloaded and starts over.  I’ve witnessed this with feature upgrades on our client systems.  It will just download the 4 GB over and over again on the troubled systems.  I’ll run the installer locally from my ISO and it’ll install fine.

That is a riot. Imagine Windows 10 cell phones eating up 5GB of data usage in a single day.

Well KB4100347 just showed up in the last Hour or so, wasn’t here @Logon approx. 1500MST, seems to me for Win10 1803 Home there was two updates Septembers KB4457128 and this KB41000347 (which promptly disappeared the next day) and now apparently back. Seems a bit later in the day here normally on Patch Tuesdays they show up between 1100-1200MST Hmmm? Nothing in the Web Page: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/4099479 not surprising really and not much in the Catalogue: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/4099479 Another “Quality” update reissued perhaps? the size of it, its likely an SSU.

        Yes, Spectre V2 Microcode updates.

Intel Microcode Updates around the following products (CPUs) have been revised. We recommend to take this latest update to stay current:

        • Broadwell Server E, EP, EP4S
        • Broadwell Server EX
        • Skylake Server SP (H0, M0, U0)
        • Skylake D (Bakerville)
        • Skylake X (Basin Falls)

No matter where you go, there you are.

No matter where you go, there you are.

After installing KB4457128 all my mapped drives were disconnected but still shown in Windows Explorer with the red X. To restore the connectivity and browse them again I have to write their path in the address bar in windows explorer. Very annoying, especially in a company, where this has to be done manually to all employees.
I believe this is very important issue!
