  • Patch Lady – seen on a movie screen

Posted on September 13th, 2019 at 11:10 Susan Bradley Comment on the AskWoody Lounge

Speaking of old software still in use, last night when I was at the movie theater (watching Downton Abbey  loved the movie), the preview/preshow was playing when suddenly it froze.  And then the screen showed this error screen.  Which we geeks think is a vintage Windows 95 desktop.

Given that movie theaters get movies digitally these days, its possible that this preshow screen is connected to the Internet.  Slightly freaky.

  • Win10 1903 second September cumulative update KB 4516421 – a hoax?

Posted on September 13th, 2019 at 07:44 woody Comment on the AskWoody Lounge

This smells like a hoax to me.

User khoi3003 has posted a screenshot in two places, as best I can tell, that show Windows Update with a download pending notice for

Update for Windows 10 Version 1903 for x64 based Systems (KB4516421).

The originals I found are on Tenforums and on WindowsPhoneInfo.

Only problem is that there’s no information I can find about that cumulative update…. except Günter Born reports that an anonymous tipster on his site says

heute ist KB4516421 für 1903 aufgeschlagen. Änderungen noch unbekannt.

today KB4516421 is open for 1903. Changes still unknown.

    KB4516421 beinhaltet eine uac2formatreset.exe ……..

    KB4516421 includes a uac2formatreset.exe …… ..

And an anonymous poster (possibly the same person) says:

    kommt per WSUS

    comes via WSUS

Followed by someone named C who says:

Bei mir auch per WSUS erschienen

With me also appeared by WSUS

You and I both know how easy it is to photoshop a Windows Update screen. But if the reports are from different people (NOT a given), it’s certainly bizarre.

Wonder if there’s an emergency 1903 patch in the wings that was released briefly?

    Edit on 9/13 at 8:10 p.m.

Patch Lady Susan here:  The patch is for audio issues and will be offered up on Windows update to those machines impacted:

Addresses an issue in which some customers may be unable to use USB Audio 2.0 multi-channel microphones in Voice Recorder and similar apps.

If your device is found to be affected by this issue, this update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update
