  • You can now clean install Win10 version 1903 without joining the Windows Insider (beta) program

    BIG. EMBARRASSING CORRECTION.

    I mis-read Abbodi’s post. The file MediaCreationTool1903.exe, in fact, installs Win10 1809.

Stay tuned for further updates and embarrassing mistakes…..

Anyone with an SD card inserted should remove it prior to performing the upgrade, to eliminate the risk of data corruption. Version 18361.1 does no include any Realtek card error fixes. Otherwise, it’s a pretty solid OS.

I said that the tool still download and create 17763 ISO files 🙂

the tool rely on products.cab which contain the links for ESD files
they still have not updated the cab link for 1903, despite the MCT1903 is available

hopefully the 1903 products.cab link come up soon, otherwise we must wait for general availability

Microsoft will most likely provide the 1903 products.cab file either by end of April or sometime in May, along with the 1903 ESDs & ISOs

have to wait much longer for those to become available

Thanks for the clarification! If I understand correctly, we shouldn’t waste our time with this version of the tool.

that’s right. normal win10 users should not use this 1903 MCT until next month

My point was no Win10 user (normal or otherwise) should waste their time with this version of the tool since the 1809 MCT is still available for download through regular channels.

It’s not your fault. Microsoft’s corporate communication is so poor that it’s easy to make mistakes. Only their dedicated individuals still make their products worthwhile.

I have no idea how the smiley face you posted grew in size on my reply post. Oh, well.

Whilst on the subject of (possible) mistakes. There is an article on the main page (under “Older Entries” now) talking of Technet and MSDN blogs being archived under OneDrive, but the link provided is in fact Google Drive. Was this deliberate?

      Hope its for test purpouses

        good question

only way I get 1903 currently is through a “UUP dump” by using the uup dump downloader script and creating a 1903 ISO from a uup dump. beta tested 1903 on a few non-production systems this past weekend

Well as long as its for test purpouses since no one should install a feature update right away

The ONLY people installing 1903 should be people who can afford to have problems. Given Microsoft’s “great” track record, there are bound to be some serious but, as yet, undiscovered issues.

I’ll install it 3 months after it is officially released as a “final” product.

Ever since W10 came out i have installed the feature updates the day they were released.

Quite honestly other than the data deletion on 1809 i can’t remember any problems i have ever had and since i do regular backups and images that problem was fixed with a few clicks of my mouse.

” I Believe ” that the problems that the press loves to make such a big deal of affect only a small subset of W10 users and the large majority of those problems are due to 3rd party software.

No matter how many testers or how many inside previewers Microsoft has there is no way to test every possible combination of software.

You’re talking about new versions, yes?

1809 had the data deletion problem and many others. Took ’em many months to even get an updated version pushed.

        1803 had a host of problems. https://www.computerworld.com/article/3269773/win10-1803-bugs-roll-in-chrome-freezes-skype-burps-alienware-craters-and-hey-cortana.html

        1709 had problems. https://www.computerworld.com/article/3261005/microsoft-claims-kb-4090913-fixes-last-months-win10-1709-usb-bug.html

        And so on.

It’s very true that each of the problems only affects a small percentage of users – but it’s hard to tell in advance if you’re one of the small percentage. I’m not so sure about the “large majority of those problems are due to 3rd party software” part.

If you feel the advantages of a new version outweigh the potential for problems, my hat’s off to ya. We can always use beta testers! Personally, I like to wait until the cannon fodder has run its course and the screams have died down.

That said, I’ll staunchly defend your right to install new software. Even show you how to do it. But I won’t condone the practice for most people.
