Completely confused.  I have 2 HP laptops that I stagger updates on.  Both have Conexant ISST Audio.  I have been careful with updates since that fiasco started.

Laptop 1 updated to 20H2 in May 2021.  There were no outstanding drivers or optional updates, nothing hidden.  Last week I updated to 21H1 using Microsoft download page “update now”.   All has been good.
This week a new a new WU update appears (not optional): Conexant Media 7/3/2018  8.65.262.0.  but Device Manager shows current driver  = 9.0.232.70 from 10/31/2020.
Search for “conexant ISST” in Microsoft update catalog search shows the latest = Conexant – MEDIA – 9.0.278.120 from 11/9/2020.
Suggestions on what to do with this?  should I just let it install the old driver from WU?
(and I just looked at Laptop 2 which is still on 20H2 (from May), it has driver Conexant ISST Audio = 9.0.278.120  from 11/10/2020,  and WU now has update  Conexant – MEDIA – 9.0.278.130 waiting in the wings — which doesn’t even show up in my Microsoft Catalog search )
Apologies if I haven’t given enough information.

Never let Windows Update install drivers.
      Block drivers installation.
Drivers should be updated directly from OEM (never use a 3rd party driver update software).

I thought WU showed drivers under “Optional updates/Driver updates”, which I never installed.  This one appears under “Updates available, pending download”.

I’ll just block drivers in group policy, again.

      Thanks.
