Users would expect for Windows 11 to stop changing every month after one and a half year.

Today we’re reaffirming our long-standing approach to put people in control of their Windows PC experience and to empower developers to take advantage of our open platform.

We want to ensure that people are in control of what gets pinned to their Desktop, their Start menu and their Taskbar as well as to be able to control their default applications such as their default browser through consistent, clear and trustworthy Windows provided system dialogs and settings.

Third party applications running on Windows and Microsoft’s own apps and features will have access to methods for pinning to these key user experiences and access to directing users to change defaults. Apps may offer features to lead users to the appropriate dialog or setting, but users are ultimately in control through standardized and clear experiences to inform their decisions…

Have they been listening to their pesky users again? Those who clamoured for control of their own defaults, desktop, start menu and taskbar? Why don’t Microsoft just say, “That’s the way it is, get over it” instead of pandering to people who bought it already or won’t ever. /s

BTW, is there a list of 18 monthly changes you mention? The ultimate list only has 3: The ultimate overview of recent Windows 11 changes

If this change is taking months to get into Dev Channel, regular users won’t see it until 23H2.

      Windows 11 Pro version 22H2 build 22621.1485 + Microsoft 365 + Edge

Sorry… I just couldn’t get past this first sentence of quoted hogwash. It was just too funny for words.

Compare the flexibility of the Windows 7 UI, the willingness of its developers to share hidden and/or undocumented tweaks, the wealth of documentation on Technet or developer blogs with how it all changed fundamentally with Windows 10 (and onboarding of Satya Nadella).

Now it’s mostly obfuscation, radically reduced documentation and an ‘our way or the highway’ attitude, coupled with regular updates to thwart third-party apps which still attempt to allow users control.

I have never used the Windows 11 Graphical User Interface (GUI).  I installed StartAllBack as soon as the upgrade finished.    Consequently, I’ve never had any difficulty pinning things where I want them.

Create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates, in case you need to start over!
We all have our own reasons for doing the things that we do. We don't all have to do the same things.
