During the last couple of days a new Add-ins button has appeared on the home tab of Excel, Word & Powerpoint, on my desktop PC and two Laptops.

Does anyone know how to get rid of it?

    Thanks.

    Edit:

I should add Office 365 version is Personal, Click-to-Run.

It appears that the Ribbon has been customized. Do you share the Office subscription? Can you customize the Ribbon to remove the Add-in button?

Yes, the ribbon has been customised, no the subscription is not shared.

I should have mentioned, the add in button was not added by me, it does not show up the customise ribbon dialog, so can’t be removed that way. I tried that on all three computers.

Attached is screenshot of what shows when clicked.

      Hi quiberon:

I have the same problem. I noticed this Add-ins group on the Home tab of my MS Outlook 2019 ribbon over a month ago but it’s just appeared in my other Office apps like MS Excel 2019 in the past few days.

If I right-click in the ribbon and choose Customize the Ribbon … there doesn’t appear to an Add-ins group listed under “Home” that you can select and remove to customize the ribbon, and unchecking the Add-ins checkbox as shown below doesn’t fix the problem.

I’ve created a Custom Home tab in both word and excel, and renamed the original to “Home (OLD)” and unchecked it so that it doesn’t show.

If you add the groups and items individually, the format goes belly-up. it works better just creating the tab and, then selecting the groups from the home tab under “Main Tabs” and clicking “Add” on the group name on the left of the customise dialog, that the formatting stays the same.

      Hi quiberon:

I still haven’t found a simple way to hide this Add-ons group on the Home tab of Office 2019 ribbon menu, but thought you might be interested in reading the 24-Aug-2023 Neowin article Microsoft Updates Office Apps With a New Section for Managing Add-ins.

I clicked on that group in my Excel 2019 application today and this is the message I see:

      Hi imacri,

I’ve created my own Home Tab with the same groups and contents, and unchecked the original in the customisation dialog so that it doesn’t show.

      Hi quiberon:

Thanks, I’ll keep that workaround in mind if Microsoft doesn’t fix this annoyance.

In the mean time I’ve created a topic in the Microsoft Answers forum (where I post as user Great White North) at How to Remove the New Add-ins Group on Home Tab of MS Office 2019 Ribbon?. The MVP who responded there confirmed that users currently don’t have the ability to remove this new Add-ins group from the Home tab of the ribbon at File | Options | Customize Ribbon and suggested I send feedback to Microsoft from within one of my Office applications at File | Feedback.

I apparently can’t send feedback to Microsoft this way because I have disabled all Connected Experiences at File | Account | Account Privacy | Manage Settings, so I used Microsoft’s Feedback Hub app that is bundled with my Win 10 OS to submit a complaint. If you have the Feedback Hub app installed on your computer you can go to https://aka.ms/AAm9lpd to read (and hopefully upvote) my suggestion to allow users to customize their existing Home tab to remove this new Add-ins group from the ribbon.
