I guess this is part of the new things on the AskWoody site. I suppose there’s a reason for this but I certainly liked the original way – having my reply go directly underneath and a little to the right of the original post I’m replying to.

AskWoody MVPhaving my reply go directly underneath and a little to the right of the original post I’m replying to.
It has been threading correctly, unless REPLY wasn’t pressed first it would go to the bottom.
Edit Note: I just tested and Replies are nested.

AskWoody LoungerAnd, now I hit the Reply Button of PKCano’s Reply as shown in the screen shot below (Red Arrow), and the Reply Box is located between PKCano’s Reply and my Reply.
I had to try the *Reply* twice. First time, I saw the Reply Box briefly in the position noted in the screen shot, and then it suddenly changed to the bottom of the thread. (I did not try to type and post a Reply from that position–will do that next time if I see that behavior again to see what the results are.) I scrolled back up to the top of the tread and pressed the Reply Button again–and this time it *stuck*, and remained in the position seen in the screen shots below.

AskWoody LoungerSo, scrolled up and hit the Reply button again.
1st try put the Reply Box at the bottom of the thread.
Scrolled up again.
2nd try put the Reply Box just under this post # 2213898 .
This *feature* is somewhat unreliable. Have to pay attention to what is happening if you want it to turn out the way you want!

AskWoody LoungerEdit Note: I just tested and Replies are nested.
This should be under @ Bluetrix near the top.
I created a second tab with this thread, and created the quote above, and then copied and pasted so the comment I was replying to would be documented.
Okay, Wow! That’s new! The Reply Box is now located in the position that the Reply is going to be placed by the *nesting behavior* of the forum! The following screen shots are of the reply sequence for the first 4 or 5 posts of this thread. Note the position of the Reply Box. It is no longer at the bottom of the thread–which is where it has always gone in the past regardless of where your reply was scheduled to be nested.
Interesting change ….

AskWoody PlusThe same thing happened to me yesterday on 1 reply but then went back to normal. Seems as though it’s random.

I had to press the REPLY twice to get the first box to stay in place so I could go back and get the quote. Weird. Let’s see if this works, I’m on my Win 7 computer now.

AskWoody LoungerThis time, the Reply function jumped down to the very bottom of the thread–should have been just below this Reply here:
https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/all-topic-replies-now-go-to-the-bottom/#post-2213898
Let’s see where the Reply is going to be placed in the thread …
Screen shot below shows what Reply Button I hit for this Reply:
Edit by NightOwl: As I expected, this Reply ended up at the end of the thread–exactly where the Reply Box was located while I was typing this Reply.
So, now you have to watch to see where your Reply Box is located in the thread after you hit the Reply Button. If it’s where you want it–type away and hit Submit. If it’s not where you want it, then you need to scroll back up to the position you wanted your reply to be, hit the Reply Button again, and see if the Reply Box will then be in the position you wanted.

GuestReplying to @NightOwl post-2213903 nested?
First click went to bottom of replies, under @Kristy post-2213952 which is the last post at this time.
Scrolled back up clicked on @NightOwl #2213903 again.
Reply box opened under @NightOwl.
So, it’s two clicks, but you have to scroll back up and click reply second time.
sheesh! At least that looks like it works.

MemberGeekdom ( #2213873 ) “A possible work-around until things get sorted:”
I pressed “Reply” above your comment, but first copied to a text editor that works with html the number of your comment (at the begining of this answer, next to your user name), as well as the one sentence quoted above. Then hit “submit”, and now, at least, people can find out whom and about what I am answering, by using the link between parenthesis that is also your comment’s number. Wherever this reply ends up when I hit “Submit”, people that read it will, at least, be able to find out what it is about.
Of course, none of this should be necessary if things were working as intended. All I can add on this subject is: I hope this and other weird flaws very recently affecting the posting of users’ comments in AskWoody get sorted out soon. If nothing else, because they don’t look good.

AskWoody MVPI guess this is part of the new things on the AskWoody site. I suppose there’s a reason for this but I certainly liked the original way – having my reply go directly underneath and a little to the right of the original post I’m replying to.
I first clicked “REPLY” at the top of your OP. The text box for my reply opened at the bottom of the thread, just as it usually does.
Next, I scrolled back to your OP, used the left mouse button to highlight the text I wanted to quote, then clicked “QUOTE” at the bottom of your OP. Again, the text box was down at the bottom of the thread, only it now contained your remarks that I quoted.
I wrote my reply, then clicked on “Submit”, expecting my reply to your post to be nested and indented just under previous replies to your OP.
Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!We were all once "Average Users". We all have our own reasons for doing the things that we do with our systems, we don't need anyone's approval, and we don't all have to do the same things.-

ManagerHad you clicked twice on Reply on the original post, then highlighted your quote text and clicked text, it would have (as is currently happening) nested. However, your reply didn’t nest, which is the crux of the current issue.
We are trying to figure out the problem, but the workaround is to use the Reply button twice, seeing the editor box appear immediately under the post being replied to, before posting, does work at present.
🙂
