Another Round of Apple Updates

Apple has released another round of updates. I will be updating the AKB article with upgrade advice shortly:

• iOS and iPadOS 13.2: Includes Siri privacy enhancements, Deep Fusion Camera support on iPhone 11, and more.
• HomePod 13.2: Don’t upgrade yet. It could brick it.
• tvOS 13.2: Includes Siri privacy enhancements.
• iOS 12.4.3: For older devices that cannot upgrade to iOS 13
• Plus, more details on iOS 10.3.4 for iPhone 5.

In other news, AirPods Pro have been announced (Anyone interested in them? Let me know!). More details here, and FAQ’s answered here.

Do you have any information regarding the security policy of Apple regarding previous devices? They seem to issue patches for older IOS for specific security issues, but it is hard to know what it means exactly and assess the risk of not upgrading soon to an IOS13 device.

Apple seem so secretive about all that. They don’t tell you that you should stop using the device like Microsoft do when they drop support. They seem to still support the device up to a point, but it is not clear at all to which extent they do. If the browser has underlying vulnerabilities exposed because you don’t run the latest IOS, it might not be sufficient to receive an occasional security update that fix other parts of the OS.

All I have from Apple is this, which you’ve likely read. Anything else is still inside the magical walls of Apple.

• • watchOS 6.1 finally brings watchOS to Series 1 and Series 2 watches.
  • The HomePod Update has been pulled.
  • Apple TV’s app coming to Sony TVs.
  • Info on iPhone 11 and 11 Pro Camera Features.
  • Say goodbye to PlayStation Vue.

Even though I’m a student, I likely won’t go for this. I was getting my Apple Music plan for free through Verizon, but I moved to a plan without it to save $10/month on my bill (I moved from Play More to Do More Unlimited to get 50% off my iPad plan) since I don’t listen to a lot of music.

For Apple TV+, I will take the trial and likely signup for a month. I want to watch a couple things on it, plus I want to write a review for AskWoody. I’ll likely let it lapse afterward. I’ve been scaling back on my services to save money and focus only on the services I utilize constantly.
