GuestI was looking at a Netgear AC2600 (R7400-100NAS) router that is on sale for Black Friday. I cannot find any information on the brand of chipset that it has.
It seems Netgear is using a combo of Broadcom, Atheros and Mediatek. From what I’ve read in various places, the Mediatek chipset is not very good and causes a lot of issues, and I’d like to avoid it if possible.
Does anyone know what chipset is in this particular model or know how to find out which brand it uses? There is no mention of it on Netgear’s site or forum, and I can’t even find a review of this model anywhere.
It would be nice if Netgear and other manufacturers would provide this information. It seems to be hit or miss with a Netgear these days, you may get a rock-solid router or a piece of junk.
Any information anyone can provide is much appreciated!

GuestShort of doing a tear down, Nirsoft’s Wireless Network Watcher (see the other network tools) may help determine the chipset manufacturer.
Notes: Nir Sofer’s wireless network tools have been flagged as harmful even though there is legitimate use for them. So you will probably have to give permission for them in your Antivirus solution to keep them from being quarantined if you are asked about the program. Additionally some AV programs will outrightly delete the file so you have to temporarily disable real-time scanning.

GuestThe latest firmware update release notes fixes some important bugs. This router model may also advertise the Nighthawk App during initial setup and in the interface.

AskWoody MVPSeems to be the Mediatek chipset, so it’s cheap for a reason.
See the comments in this thread.
