I have an older Mac Power Book (15 years old) that I still use now and again and it is old enough that it won’t ‘update’ anymore but still has connectivity and I use it for some of my old projects and just for fun.

Anyway, I got an email from Koingo (https://www.koingosw.com/) a third party software developer that I’ve got some apps from – he lost tons of video and pictures from his cloud account and is warning people to back up cloud data ASAP.  There is more information at the company website.  This may not impact a lot of people but this is a good example of needing backup data.

Should a business rely on a beta OS?

As the CEO of Koingo Software, I would like to issue a warning to all Mac users planning to upgrade to the latest macOS Ventura beta. My personal experience has taught me that upgrading without backing up both local and cloud content could potentially result in the loss of your entire iCloud photo library.

Unfortunately, Apple support refused to escalate the issue to the engineering team due to the use of a beta version of macOS Ventura.

That CEO said the incident happened in May last year, but is only announcing now (March 16 2023 to be exact) that “We have suffered EXTREME DATA LOSS. The majority of our business operations are temporarily halted.”?

Of course if he/she is telling the truth then he/she can blame no one else for using a beta OS for critical work without a good backup.

We all know that backups are important and we should do periodic backups of our important data, but how many of us actually do that?

Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst.

The CEO doesn’t say when Ventura Beta and what version (currently 13.3 beta 4) has been installed .
