In Windows 10 using Edge-Chrome, right-click on Apple Music page and select ‘Save as App’.

Apple Music beta gives for the first time access to Apple Music to Linux users.

I haven’t used iTunes for a long time, ever since I started to have difficulties getting it to work well enough for certain things I like to do. Things such as listening to music and news, or commentary from radio stations that broadcast over the Internet as well as over the air. I can also do it with a browser (and do) but the convenience of seeing long lists of stations available to choose from, creating a library with the ones I like to listen to, etc. is something that browsers cannot give their users (or, if they can, I would very much like to hear how one can make them work that way). I hope this new app is, or soon will be, also available for Mac products without an “i” at the beginning: my MacBook Pro laptop, for example.

While I hope that Apple will eventually bring an Apple Music app to Windows to replace iTunes (for now, not on the list), the web app will be a great replacement (especially when it gets out of beta) to allow access to Apple Music without dealing with iTunes (especially since it works with iCloud Music Library).

Since Apple TV+ will also work in a web browser, for those who signup for it as well, one less thing to deal with using iTunes for.

Now if Apple can extend iTunes Movies and TV Shows streaming to a web browser, there’d be no need for iTunes for Windows. You can get partially there with Movies Anywhere.

I’m looking forward to saying goodbye to iTunes once I upgrade my Mac to Catalina.

Of course there will be a need for iTunes on Windows, at least for full (encrypted) backup. You shouldn’t pay for iCloud storage for which the upload is slower than a snail, when you have TBs of free local storage.

I have no issues with iTunes on Windows creating backups for my iPhone (Apple Watch) and iPad or listening to Internet radio stations. I don’t need the music part as I carry my music on my 256GB iPhone Max.

Forgot about that. Yep, there’s still a need for iTunes for Windows. I have 200GB of iCloud Storage space (so I can comfortably hold my iCloud backup plus all my other data I need to sync over iCloud). Macs will move device management and backup to the Finder in Catalina. Forgot that iTunes for Windows is still needed for that (since I’ve gotten so used to using a Mac again my Windows knowledge is slipping).
