How oh How do I change an Array Controller in NT4 Server WITHOUT booting the server up. We have a Compaq server that has a dead 3200 array controller and we have a new 5300 array controller but NT server doesnt like it and blue screens when booting, most probably because the necessary files for the device are missing or the drivers for the 3200 are incompatable.

    Any ideas people? headthrob

did it come with instructions? the ones i’ve seen say to run setup off the included disks first to install the drivers then install the hardware.

I too, am trying to change disks under a smart2 Compaq array controller these days :
here, at bios-time boot, the proliant would run a configuration app. in character mode
asking for a ‘array utility diskette’ (which can be generated from the Compaq util CD)

all this takes place *before* NT booting…
I guess you can launch the character mode app by hitting F10 at power-on :
this should launch the ‘system apps’ written in some-hidden-partition by Compaq Wisdom

      — please do not mind my ‘magical’ approach on these:
-1- I’m french, & I have to translate my thoughts
-2- I inherited 15 days ago of a Compaq server to maintain,
for which I have not enough logging info, nor docs.
      HTH anyway,
      Marc
