I was talking to another user and @Bob99 in the “Once more, unto the breach!” thread about how advertisers on sites (this one included) load advertising content (including javascript) from other sites they have no control over.

Surprisingly in this case (for the amazon ads on this site) amazon did NOT load any content outside of their own servers. That doesn’t mean it will always be that way, but at least for the test I ran.

Google on the other hand loaded about 3MB of content in ~250 requests from ~27 domains (vs 50 requests and 0.5MB to load just askwoody.com with no ads). The end result was that it loaded 3-4 banner ads for the same ad (different form factors).

How does it take 3MB, 250 requests, and 27 domains to load what amounts to 1 banner ad?

Here is the list divided by direct(content from the advertisers, google & amazon, directly) and 3rd party content:

thank you for explaining the google add-on banner ads. when i visit with firefox everything is as it should be. when i visit using ie11 i get two or three ads that seem to be of dubious origin.
