Some of the most recent batch of Windows Updates have been causing a number of problems, including crashing Windows with 0x50 BSODs.

It looks like MS has listed 4 updates that have been ‘pulled’ as part of 3 groups of ‘known issues’, also a workaround has been detailed: MS14-045: Description of the security update for kernel-mode drivers: August 12, 2014

If the Updates don’t appear to be causing a problem, is it best to just leave them installed?

Well, Trev, I’ve had 2 of them installed since Tuesday with no ill effects, if I do get a problem, I’ll know where to look 🙂 I’d leave them but check occasionally for updated versions.

If you do see any anomalies (particularly with font rendering) or worse, check the link for the current workaround/fix, a simple uninstall might not be the best route.

Unfortunately I read the MS14-045 bulletin and went ahead and uninstalled the 2 updates I had on my system, rather than waiting for a reply here.

I’ll see what happens, but thanks for your help in any event.

No worries, Trev, at least they should be fixed next time they’re offered 🙂

For what its worth, I had no problems with the Aug updates on either my Windows 7 or Windows 8 machines.

This thread is reminding me of a question I have been meaning to post:
If a MS update say KB123456 is deamed faulty enough by MS to be redone does it get offered/installed on a machine that had the original update installed and is it offer as the same KB123456. It seems most of the udated KBs I have seen are just verbiage edits.

      🍻

Just because you don't know where you are going doesn't mean any road will get you there.

It depends on the resolution. If it is just a metadata or detection fix then probably not. Otherwise, it most likely will be re-offered. It may not be the full fix that is re-offered.

I had two of these, I didn’t see any problems at all on my 8.1 machine, I uninstalled them anyway.
