I saw @Woody‘s MSDefcon 3 and installed the August updates.

Then, of course, the Cortana high cpu problem started.

I have tried restoring the Cache, and an IE search change but they did not help.

What is the best way to stop the Cortana cpu usage (even uninstalling as a last resort.)?

Roll it back, if you can, to the previous CU/Build and wait for the fix.

Thanks @PKCano, rolled back OK to 18362.267.

Do I need to roll back the SSU update KB4515530 too?

Nope, you can keep that. In fact, I don’t think it’s uninstallable.

If you don’t want to use Cortana, you can disable it.  Just follow these instructions.

Thanks @bundaburra, I do use the functionality in Cortana, so I’m going with @pkcano‘s advice for now.
