Where I work all of our PCs and Laptops have a organization wide barcode asset tag.

We get billed for monthly support for the units in our department.

The organization is large enough there are different IT support departments.

Since they report never received them, we are still getting billed for some systems that have been replaced with the old units sent or delivered to one of the IT departments, (especially replacing desktops for laptops).

I am wondering if there is a good asset management software that can be used to report the from the asset tag
        1. The manufacture’s Serial Number
        2. Who is the person having possession
        3. The PC/Laptop’s computer/host name
        4. If still is in our group,
        5. Unit has been shipped back  (with the tracking number/Date/Sent to which IT Group)
        6. Who from IT picked up the unit from our offices
        7. If staff member delivered it, the person accepting the unit delivered.

Again looking for suggestions on a good asset management software that can utilize the organization wide barcode on the systems to our advantage, so we can prove we do not have the PC/Laptops in possession and stop being billed for it.

        Thanks

Some accounting software has such facilities – it might be worth checking if what you are using is such an option?

There are plenty of asset management solutions out there, some free, some paid.

SpiceWorks is a popular free program.
AssetTiger is free for up to 250 nodes and cheap after that.
OpenAudIT is free for basic inventory.

And this list of free stuff: https://www.itassetmanagement.net/marketplace/market-guides/free-inventory-tools/

        cheers, Paul

Paul T.  Thanks for the information.

It is looking like the AssetTiger might be the better fit, I’m getting the impression the SpiceWorks isn’t designed to work with barcodes, (could be misreading their forums etc.)

But will be going through more on the link you provided.
