boot prob after uninstalling kb3035583

I have windows 7sp1 Home premium. Boot time was like 45 to 50 secs. I installed KB3035583 4 days ago with no problems. Decided I didng’t want the update and uninstalled it. That went smooth. Checked for GWX folder In windows folder system 32 and saw it must have been removed as well. However ever since I uninstalled the update my computer right after the welcome pops up hangs on the screen and boots in like 3 minutes before its usable. It only happened after I uninstalled KB3035583. Did that update make some kind of permanent change to windows 7 operating system and is there any type for this problem short of doing a total system revcovery ?

Have your Windows Update set to “Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them”
Ensure KB3035583 is actually uninstalled.
Check for KB3035583 in Windows Update in Important and Optional updates also
— Hide either or both of them
Then check Task Manager to see if the GWX process is trying to run.
— If so, end/stop the process.
You can also check Task Scheduler
— Run taskschd.msc. Go to Task Scheduler Library -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Setup.
— Under Setup key, you’ll see 2 more sub-keys: gwx & GWXTriggers.
— Delete all tasks present under “gwx” key; launchtrayprocess & refreshgwxconfig.
— If GWXTriggers is present, you will not be able to disable or delete it due to permission issues
With all of that said, I know you said the GWX folder in System32 isn’t there but I would still check the above
— BTW, is your system a 32-bit system?

Shut down
Start back up
Even if the computer boots back up normally check Windows Update again in case KB3035583 is trying to return. You might not see it immediately but if it’s trying to return, in my experience I’ve seen it within an hour or so.
Hide it again if it is trying to return.
Shut down
Start back up
Let us know the results.

NOTE: There are more KB’s involved in ensuring a clean system to ensure upgrading to Windows 10 per Windows Updates and if you’d like to know what they are, I’ll look them up and post them.

At this point in time I do not suspect you will need to do a total system recovery.

The check for updates is set to choose and let me install. Right now after I uninstalled KB3035583 it appeared again but i have it hidden. There is nothing in task manager showing GWX process at all. Will try task scheduler as you suggest I’m running a 64 bit system here thanks very much for you help

went to task scheduler only saw gwx folder and not GWXTriggers. The folder showed no contents so noting to remove

In case you are interested, since you have a 64-bit system The GWX is supposed to be in the C:WindowsSysWOW64 folder.

Can you do a system restore prior to the 4 days ago when you installed KB3035583?

That link that Clint had referred to might have done the trick as opposed to uninstalling KB3035583.

Maybe it will be worth re-installing KB3035583 and following those procedures

I looked up the other 5 KB’s involved with Windows 7 Windows 10 upgrade:
KB3068708, KB2990214, KB2952664, KB3021917 & KB3050265
Consider uninstalling any of them if they are installed and then repeat the hide updates for each one if they show up in Windows Update as Important and also as Optional

Have you checked out Action Center to see what it reports?
