    Hello Susan Bradley and friends:

You may have already noticed this annoyance:

certain websites like Microsoft’s domains prevent Firefox from returning to the source page by clicking on the “back” (left arrow).

One way to circumvent that “lock” at similar websites is to change the way your Forum software processes hyper-links.

Here’s how this is done with HTML documents using MS WORD:

    Set.Target.Frame_

This mode should be the DEFAULT, which any subscriber should be able to modify as needed.

While it’s not the default, it is available through the Insert/edit link button of the Visual editor.

(Or in the Text editor, you can write the HTML code for a link and make sure to include the target=”_blank” attribute.)

      THIS IS ONLY A TEST:

Go here for that error code.

Many thanks for the swift reply.

I followed your directions and those directions worked perfectly.

Very often, I have clicked on a link, only to discover that I could not click the “back” arrow so as to return to the source Forum post.

This way, I can simply delete the new window at domains that “lock” the “back” arrow from working.

This generally occurs when the site the link points to does some redirect silliness. When that happens, your previous page is actually 2 or more steps back in your History, instead of just one. The suggestions below by Alex5723 and Paul T are how to deal with that.

To expand on Alex’s, if your mouse has it, middle-clicking a link will normally open it in a new tab. I tend to do this anytime I’m following a link that leads to a different web site. But if I forget and then one click of Back is not enough, I either spam click Back 2 or 3 times or use the menu that Paul suggests.

Right click on link and select ‘open in new tab’.
      Problem solved

Right click on the Back arrow.
      Select the page you want.

      cheers, Paul

It’s aggravating. But I have found that simply double-clicking on the browser’s back arrow will return me to the original site after viewing an MS page (Firefox 113.0.1).

This issue also arose for us when archiving Gmail messages on the Internet.

Right next to the scroll bar on the right, Gmail displays 3 vertical dots for “More”.

Clicking on “More” displays a menu of more options, including “Print”.

Firefox then displays a print layout, which can be changed before sending to the printer e.g. different margins etc.

At that point, the User can “Cancel” and then SAVE AS an .html file.

For any embedded links, we routinely “Set Target Frame” to “New window” and “Set as default for all hyperlinks” (see example above).

The latter sequence functions the same as choosing “Open Link in New Tab” here.

Many thanks to all for the tips:  almost 75 here (next month) and still learning something new every day.
