AskWoody PlusI have one desktop pc out of 3 that the create “new folder” has gone MIA. In fact, the only way I can create a new folder is to run MKDIR in a cmd window. On the desktop, right-clicking on a blank area only offers to create a compressed folder (zip). In explorer (sorry it will always be file manager to me…) same deal, and ctl-shift-N does absolutely nothing.
I tried editing the registry, it was already correct according to what I found on the web, as well as running system file checker, which claimed to have found and fixed things. But the problem remains.
Any ideas??

GuestVersion is Win10 Pro, All updates installed.
Not sure what you mean by “where I was coming from” I stated in OM that it does NOT work whether I am right-clicking on the desktop, or in FileManager and right-click on a directory, click on the create new icon in the file manager ribbon, or do a Ctl-Shift-N.
Yes, I see that context menu options are abundant. I see that the missing “New” dates back to at least 2013. But it seems to be the lack of the REG key “New” is missing or empty, which is not my case.

Win10 Pro is not a version, it is the Edition.
To find out which version you are running, type winver in the taskbar search box and press Enter.
We need the version and Build. Version should be 1909, 2004, 20H2. The Build will look like: Build xxxxx.nnnn -

AskWoody PlusNot sure what you mean by “where I was coming from”
until I saw you post reply for version, I wondered if this started by doing an upgrade, no, since you upgraded earlier (not sure 20H2 was available in July though? maybe 2004?).
How long has the problem been there and was anything else changed that coincided with the problem?-

GuestLOL Not sure when it started since creating a new folder isn’t something one does on a daily basis. But I’m guessing it started in the past month.
The install date IIRC is when Win10 was installed not the version update. I just updated to 20H2 yesterday AFTER the problem started, thinking it might fix it.
I’ll limp along using mkdir until I get some time for a deep dive into what is causing the problem.

AskWoody LoungerHave a look at this page and particularly №5. Use Command Prompt to create a directory
https://windowsreport.com/fix-cannot-create-new-folder-windows-10/
It claims the action of creating a New Folder in the C: drive root by the CMD Prompt method might solve your issue.
Worth a try.-
