I am trying to set up a new Win 10 Pro PC on my network, which includes 2 Win7 Home Premium PCs. While the Win10 PC can see and access the shares on both of these PCs, I can’t for the life of me get the WIN10 PC to accept the log on credentials from Win 7 PCs. I can see the Win10 PC in the Network section of Windows Explorer on the Win7 PCs, and vice versa. network sharing is on, network discovery is on, the User folder is shared, all are on the same network name (Workgroup). The user name on the Win10 pc is the same as is used for logging on normally and so is the password. The network is private.

Any ideas on what I should try next?

Is SMB1.0 enabled on the Windows 10 ?

Alex 5723 Yes it is, which surprises me since I am on 1809.

One other feature. I notice that, when I try to connect, it shows the user as being from the domain of the email address used for the Microsoft login. It happens to be my own domain, but I am not trying to connect via a corporate domain. Might it be looking for a corporate domain, and might that be my problem? This is just a small home network that I am running via my router.

@PKCano Firstly, please forgive my ignorance. This is the first Win10 machine for us, partly set up for my wife by my son, so I am not quite sure of the correct answer. The login is the same as the Microsoft ID, and the Settings>Accounts screen implies it is a Microsoft account, because it gives the option of switching to a local account. However, the password used to log on is simpler than the complex and secure Microsoft account password. So I think the answer to your question is Microsoft account.

      OK – I think we’ve cracked it.

I was logging in to Win 10 with a Microsoft account. In my previous post, I was getting confused between the Microsoft account password and the “pin” used to log onto the Win 10 PC by its normal user (something that I would refer to as a logon password). It was this “pin” that I was using to try to gain access, and Win 10 was having none of it.

I switched to using the full Microsoft password, and the log on in the form COMPUTER_NAME\USER_NAME and it let me connect. I checked the “remember credentials” box so I only have to do this once.
