Two days ago I was d/l updates. One update didn’t finish. Said to try again. It crashed and now I am unable to log in using the local access password. It keeps telling me it’s wrong. If there is anything you can do to remove or roll back an update, when you are unable to log in with a local account. In the worst case may I be able to do some form of reinstall of windows that keeps data.

AskWoody LoungerThis web site may help, quite a bit of work in the WINRE, WINPE cmd prompt alas:
https://www.repairwin.com/how-to-remove-updates-from-windows-recovery-environment-winre/
and that’s assuming its fully installed in there and visible but its the least destructive way rather than fresh install and installing over your current installation and attempting to “fish” your files from the Windows.old folder afterwards.
Failing that if you want to get in and remove the offending update in the GUI you can use this:
https://www.isunshare.com/windows-10-password/enable-built-in-administrator-when-windows-10-locked-out.html
has worked for me in the past, but follow the instructions very carefully once in there you can change your password or remove the update/patch the usual way etc.
Hope that helps a bit. -

Don’t you take regular full image/Incremental backups of your system ?

AskWoody LoungerYou can get past the login password using Kon-Boot or PCUnlocker. Once you logged in to Windows, open the Settings app and go to Accounts -> Sign-in Options and set up a new password. If the new password works, you don’t need to roll back the update.
[Moderator edit] both of the suggested utilities are commercial products costing around $30. Please include this information in software recommendations.
