Chrome 6 has been officially released to the public as of today. The improvements I’ve noticed include better video streaming and faster page loads at Flash-heavy sites (like Infoworld.com and my local newspaper’s web site). It looks like HTML5 will also be supported, which means HD Videos will stream better, if your Internet Connection is fast enough (and you have enough available bandwidth). Wireless-N routers are pretty much necessary for good quality 1080p video playback. But as far as Chrome goes, it is now faster at launching, and web pages in general load faster. I’ve tested the new Chrome on 1080p YouTube videos at my local library (which has a wireless-n connection) and it is indeed clear and smooth, with very little Flash Player hesitations for buffering. (Note, I have a very powerful laptop when it comes to graphics.)
Secunia PSI was not detecting this new Chrome version early this morning (Central USA Time) but by noon (CDT-USA) PSI was detecting the new Chrome as patched. Remember, PSI will detect an insecure older version if you do not purge all user data folders of their old Chrome Profile data. You have to do this manually on a per-user basis. Also, in my non-Administrator Accounts in Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, I had to manually download and reinstall this version of Chrome. My Administrator Account upgraded without a hitch. I haven’t got Chrome on my Windows XP Pro SP3 32-bit laptop, so I don’t know how things will go there for those who do use Chrome on that platform.
Speaking of Secunia PSI, it also has a new version (2.0 beta).
