Using the default / standard install of Chromium Edge x64, why does it install in the x86 Program Files folder?  In fact Google Chrome does the same thing.  Is this for some type of compatibility?

From what I can find there are a few threads on the Edge community forums about this. It is attributed to buggy install routines by a couple of users. There is no response that I can find from Microsoft acknowledging this much less fixing it.

It was intentional six years ago, but is now changed for the future:

This is known, and intentional, for the time being.

Chrome 64-bit is located in Program Files (x86) not Program Files

TLDR: New installs of Chromium 85+ will be in “Program Files” folder.

Google Chrome is soon going to be installed in a different directory on Windows []
