Could UBlock origins be hacked? A strange request from UBlock origins

I hope this question is in correct forum.

Anyway, I got alert on my firefox (on Linux) that an addon of mine required a permission.  It turned out that the UBlock Origins has apparently updated and asked for a permission to finish the update.  It wanted me to allow it to store unlimited data on client-side.  I naturally declined it, however I am concerned.  Could my addon of UBlock origins has been hacked? Or even the update itself was hacked? Or was it a real update?

I admit that I am very much still a newbie when it comes to the Ublock Origins and the Linux in general.

Why uBlock Origin requests to store unlimited data in Firefox

..Mozilla notes that extensions should only request the unlimited storage permission of they use more than 5 Megabytes of storage; this is the case for uBlock Origin as it uses more than 5 Megabytes of local storage in its default configuration.

The change has no impact on the functionality of the extension at this point. Firefox does not enforce local storage quotas which means that extensions may store more than 5 Megabytes of storage even if they don’t request the permission currently..

The web is a much nicer experience with uBlock Origin active. 🙂

I am shocked at how much extra stuff is shoveled into our browsers when I have disabled uBlock Origin on occasion.
