    I have been watching the battery on my Vista machine showing a decreasing amount of battery charge even though it is plugged in and is charging.  Last week it showed 45%, today it is at 43%.

      Either the battery is dying or the charger on the motherboard is.
      Run the laptop on battery until it is less than 20%, shutdown the laptop and put it on charge overnight. What do you get?

      Installed a new battery and it is holding at fully charged.
