Delete key does not delete

I have a Alienware M15 R7 (Ryzen 9) running Windows 11.

The Delete key turns overwrite on and off however it does not delete to next character when I press it. My many previous Windows and DOS computer all deleted the next character when I pressed the Delete key. This Alienware is the only one which does not delete.

Is there a setting that I can change to allow me to change this?

That sounds like you may need to toggle the function key behaviour.

Try pressing both the Fn and ESC keys at the same time (I think that’s the correct combination to toggle) then see if the DELETE key works to delete characters.
