I’ve been a little leery about upping to Win 11 and after reading Mr. Whitney’s latest writeup, I’ve decided to hold off at least for a while.  However, I just found that the “Windows 11 is coming!” blurb at the top of my Windows Update page has gone to “Updates Pending – restart required to install.”  Although I never clicked ‘Download and Install,’ the pending updates include Windows 11.  I have paused updating until I get more information..

My question is, how can I continue receiving and installing routine updates if Win 11 is sitting there waiting for a restart?  Is my only option to let it install?  If so, will it be possible to roll back to Win 10?

Any guidance would be most appreciated.

      Download InControl from Gibson Research.
Put it on your desktop and double click on it.
Set the boxes at the bottom left to Windows 10 and your current version (21H2, 22H2) and click on “Take Control.”

      Then open File Explorer.
      Navigate to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\
Delete the Download folder (it will be recreated)
      Reboot your computer.

If it installs Win11 anyway, come back and we will give you instructions how to Rollback to Win10.

        Add…

temp turn off in services – windows update service

I recently had to do this and was able to keep it off the machine.

Thanks a bunch!  ‘Took’ Control, cancelled ‘Pause,’ several cumulatives installed (NO Win 11), note went back to “Great news—your PC meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 11. Specific timing for when it will be offered can vary as we get it ready for you,”

I was hoping to find a way to pause specifically Win 11 installation but continue to accept Win 10 updates. Reading this it looks like the only way is to install a third party app, Gibson InControl?

InControl is portable app, nothing to install.
