AskWoody PlusJust got mail from Microsoft today !! Probably for 104…with the new “Enhanced Security mode”.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-relnote-stable-channel
Enhance your security on the web. Improvements to Enhance your security on the web in edge://settings/privacy now include Basic as the new default option. With this option, Microsoft Edge will apply added security protection to the less visited sites. This feature preserves the user experience for the most popular sites on the web. For more information, see Browse more safely with Microsoft Edge…

ManagerProbably for 104…with the new “Enhanced Security mode”.
The new default in version 104 is not the Super Duper Secure Mode of your first link, which is only available for testing in Canary, Dev, and Beta. Just blocking known harmful trackers by default now in 104.
EDIT: I was wrong here. See below.

AskWoody PlusMy Edge 104 , as in my screen print, was set to ‘Strict’ by default.
Microsoft Edge’s new “Enhanced Security” feature now available to everyone
Are they wrong ?
Microsoft has released Edge version 104.0.1293.47 to the Stable Channel today. The most notable feature addition in this release is the new “Enhanced Security mode”. The feature was formerly known as the Super Duper Secure mode and it came with two options, Balanced and Strict. However, Microsoft has now also added a new Basic option, which is also what the company recommends for most users..

ManagerNo, sorry. They are right and I was wrong.
But your screenshot is not the correct section as it shows Tracking Prevention from the top of that Privacy Settings page. Enhanced Security Mode is a similar-looking section near the bottom of the same settings page. And there’s no way Strict is ever going to be the default for either as it includes “Parts of sites may not work”.
