Hello AskWoody Members.  I recently went into my Event Viewer and noticed that I had an error “Windows Failed Fast Start Up with Error Status 0xC00000D4”.  Anyone know where this originates and why this error could occur?  Thanks in advance.

My guess is that it could by caused by power being removed from the computer before it had fully shut down, depending on what you normally do with your computer overnight. Fast Startup hibernates the kernel session and device drivers to disk, for a slightly quicker start the next morning by reloading those from disk. So if Fast Startup is enabled (as it is by default), then the disk drive needs to be running for a short time after you select Shut down. If you turned off a power strip too quickly, the computer may not have finished saving that stuff, so next day its fast startup file is not complete.

If you only see that error once or just occasionally, I would ignore it.

We have seen a few reports here of fast startup problems. The recommended fix is to turn it off.

      cheers, Paul
