In an earlier post I documented my experience running some KB 5034441 related scripts on my desktop W10 22H2. I also ran them on my wife’s notebook running the same OS. Even after then applying the JAN updates, KB 5034441 failed on both.

So, this evening I ran the FEB PT updates on my wifes notebook. KB 5034441 was included among the three updates. No errors were generated. After restarting I checked the update history and it states that KB 5034441 was ‘Successfully installed on 2/24/2024’.

    Imagine that!

So, this is interesting. This evening I applied the FEB updates to my desktop pc. Among the four (4) udpates offered, KB5034441 was not among them. The updates all applied and the machine restarted OK. I checked Update History and there is no sign on KB5034441. Maybe on the desktop, Windows Updater noticed that the RE looked OK so it did not bother offering it? Who knows…. [shrug]

KB5034441 might be listed as “KB5034232” instead

      from MS support article 5034441

This update automatically applies Safe OS Dynamic Update (KB5034232) to the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) on a running PC to address a security vulnerability that could allow attackers to bypass BitLocker encryption by using WinRE.

I don’t have 5034232 either. WU must sense that my RE is OK after running those scripts, so I don’t need the updates. Who knows……

Interestingly, there is a new file in there, however. I ran the scripts on 1/13. There is a new file in there, $WINRE_BACKUP_PARTITION.MARKER dated 2024-01-27

Currently, my RE partition is 639Mb with 77Mb free.

Notebook W10 was updated without errors, the 441 vanished, but I now have a recovery partition 100MB larger. It just took 3 reboots but there was a Dot.Net patch.
