I have just developed a problem. When I add a new contact to my Contact List, the File As field is NOT displayed in the Address Cards view, but the field is contains data and is displayed in the “details” view.

Everything was working file in Outlook, I then had a problem that I had to run the InBox Repair Tool and since that time, the File As field is displayed as a blank when I view the contact list in Address Card View and all the other “Standard” Contact views except the details view. The entries that I created prior to running the InBox Repair Tool have the File As field displayed correctly – it’s only the new contacts that are displayed incorrectly!!

    Thanks for your help

      Hi,

This sounds very odd. If I read you correctly the “File As” data is present in each record (which you know because it shows in the “details” view) and yet it shows as a blank in the “Address Card” view.

The first problem is that I can’t find a “details” view on my copy of Outlook 2002. I do, however, have “Detailed Address Card view”. If this is the one where you see the “File As” data I have a thought:

Use the Customize feature on the Address Card view and check if the “File As” field is included in the list of data fields to be displayed. If you already know how to do this please forgive me detailing it here.

Select the “Tools” menu and click on “Customize…” (or click the icon). Click on “Using Views…” and select “Address Card” from the dropdown listbox. Then click on “Customize Current View…” which you can find at the top right of the window near the X that closes the window. The next window that pops up shows all possible data fields in the left window pane and the currently chosen ones in the right pane. If “File As” is not in the ‘chosen’ list drag it from the left pane and drop it ***at the very top*** of the right pane. You can use the buttons at the bottom of that window to move it up if you drop it in the wrong place.

      Regards
      John

The situation has gotten more interesting!

I exported, to a spreadsheet, my contacts. It appears that the File As field has been “moved” to the Billing Information Field and my email address is now located in the Mileage field. While the email2 and email3 fields have been “lost”.

To solve my problem, I had to create a new pst file, copy my emails and import my contacts, after correcting the field mappings. This basically fixed the problem. Not I need to manually enter email2 and email3 data into the new pst file.

Looks to me as my pst file got corrupted and the Inbox Repair tools couldn’t fix it completely.
