We will not be ending support for Windows 7/Windows 8 before the release of the Firefox 115 ESR, so the Firefox 115 ESR will support Windows 7/Windows 8 at least until 3Q 2024.

I can’t speak to when we will remove support for Windows 7/Windows 8…

I think I remember hearing that Mozilla was going to make it easy to switch to FF ESR from the standard everyday FF version. It may have been here where I read it.

Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you recognize a mistake as soon as you make it again.

Nice to hear.  But would be nicer if they support Xp rather than relaying on 3rd party extend software to get new firefox to run on Xp.

Is there an idiots guide of how to migrate a regular FF install to an ESR one without losing anything?

There is an unofficial website http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=38 where I think they would help you with that migration.  IMO when windows 7 support is ending the official software will detect that you are on it and switch you to ESR automatically without data loss, but if you want to be more sure yourself or just prefer to switch now that forum will help you.

In general, always keep a list of the extensions you have installed, and make regular backups of your bookmarks and passwords.  Many things IMO can result in a loss of open tabs so if that would bother you the ctrl-shift-D command can make bookmarks of open tabs in one window.
