Thanks to @WC and @EP for the heads up. A few hours ago we got KB 4512509 – the second cumulative update for Win10 version 1803 this month. It claims

Apparently, nobody cares about the severe memory leak introduced in Window 10 1903 when running that version as client OS in Hyper-V. There are just a few months left until support for Windows 10 1803 ends. Of course, Microsoft hasn’t fixed until now.

I understand that the VB issue affected all versions from Win7 up yet this KB only addresses Win10 1803.  What about Win7 and Win10 1809, anyone have a clue?

the 1903 version of the VB bug fix is now available only in the Release Preview ring 8/21 – KB4512941 (build 18362.325) and thru a recent UUP dump as I checked myself

Can anyone comment whether this Win10 1803 update is stable?

KB4512501 CU released on 8/13 issues are listed on the MS pages.
KB4512509 Preview released 8/19 issues are listed on the MS pages. It says the VB issues are fixed but still says:

We are investigating reports that a small number of devices may startup to a black screen during the first logon after installing updates

Thanks, hoping for a first-person report from an AskWoody participant who has done a trial installation of this latest August 1803 update.   We’ll wait another few days.

Nobody here may be doing that test. Why don’t you make a backup, install the updates, test, then let us know what happened?

              cheers, Paul

Win10 1803 64bit.  WU Mgr utility update check shows MS is still offering the prior August cumulative update with VB bug.  Downloaded KB 4512509 manually from MS catalog, installed without issues, stable for 3 days.   VB apps run OK.

The Security CU KB4512501 (with the VB bug) will continue to be offered through WU until another update supersedes it. That would be the Security CU issued on Sept Patch Tuesday.

KB4512509 is a non-Security Preview. Non-Security updates do not supercede Security updates. Previews are not offered through WU unless Group Policy is set to receive them, or in some cases, the user is set to SAC(T) prior to v1903 and does “Check for updates.”

This is starting to get confusing…  on our WSUS server, KB4512501 is stated as “superseded by KB4512509” (see attached screenshot).   We have both KBs available for install for our WSUS test computers and it looks like KB4512501 is skipped and only KB4512509 is installed.  So the question now is do we or do we not have the August security updates installed?

KB4512509 will contain the fixes in the earlier KB4512501 plus additional patches.

So that means it’s OK to install KB4512509 only as the update will contain both the August security updates and the additional non-security improvements?

                Yes, the updates are CUMULATIVE.
