Footnote separators not deleting

I’m editing a long paper and the footnotes are in rag order. I’ve had to delete them and begin over, but the separating line from the original footnotes will not be deleted, even though I’ve deleted the footnote numbers embedded in the text, and the footnotes themselves. I’ve tried deleting the chunk of text above and below, but that line will not budge. I’ve tried every fix I could find, going into draft mode, resetting the footnote separator, removing border lines etc. Nothing is having any effect on it. The text was originally an odt so it may be some corruption in the formatting due to that, but if anyone has come across this and might have a fix, please help!!! Thanks

Check if it is in the footer or header section of the document. Otherwise, copy it to a new document. MS office has typical glitches that MS never wants to solve.
