My better half  enjoys checking out the Google Doodle as it changes depending on the day’s occasion. Beginning last night, the Doodle had a Halloween theme, and it had a creepy twist–though not in the sense that you might think.

        Google-Halloween-1

This time, the Doodle featured a game, where the object (IIRC) was to kill ghosts. At the end of the game, her score was displayed.

        Google-Halloween-2

Now here’s the scary part, leading her to call me with a voice of alarm. She noticed that a new email window had opened in her Outlook 2019 (on Windows 10), with her address already showing, her score in the subject line, and a hyperlink in the body of the text. (I advised her not to click on the link, and she deleted the email after taking the screenshot at my request.)

        Google-Halloween-3

So the questions are: how from a technical standpoint, and by what right, does Google get into her Outlook to create an email?

She’s a different person (obviously), but this is an illustration of why I myself have as little as possible to do with Google on my PCs.

I despise Google, but I don’t see anything scary or nefarious about that.

Any web site can invoke an outgoing email draft via a “mailto:” link.
