        Firefox running on Windows 7

When I an entering information on a webpage and need to go back and make a correction, it arbitrarily jumps back to the end of the line.  How do I STOP if from going to the end of the line?  Sometimes, I just need to erase a letter and sometimes I need to enter multiple letters as part of my correction.  Sometimes, it lets me enter the complete new string and other times, after enter a couple of letters, it puts the rest of the new letters at the end of the line.

        Thanks

        Jana

Does this phenomenon occur only within Firefox, or does it also occur in other programs, such as: Thunderbird, Notepad, WordPad, Word, Outlook, … ?
