I need some help and I’m hoping I’m in the right place.
I’ve been collecting files for years (I’m 79) and they are in many folders and some folders contain many thousands of files. I’ve started sorting them and moving them to appropriate folders but it’s going to take forever.
I’ve created a group of folders on another drive to transfer all the files/folders to folders named Gardening, Meditation, Health, Woodwork etc etc.
What I want to do is work on 1 original folder at a time. I want to highlight all the Gardening files/folders for instance and then copy or move them to the Gardening folder.
AFAIK this can’t be done in File Explorer because when I highlight the second file the highlighting disappears from the first file. Sometimes I can transfer a group of files if they are all Gardening etc but this doesn’t happen often enough.
Is there a way in Windows 10 to do this or is there a utility that achieves this?
To make things harder I had a stroke which affected my right side and my right hand is nearly useless. Worse luck I am right handed so using my left hand for all this is a bit of a nightmare.
Here’s hoping that you have an answer or know of a utility that solves the problem.

Hold the Ctrl key down when you click on the files will allow you to select multiple files.
Holding Shift allows you to select all files between two files.

      cheers, Paul

Thanks Paul. Seeing as I can’t use 2 hands this is very difficult to do. But after some fiddling I found that I can make it work by jamming a tooth pick beside the Ctrl key. Seeing as I will be coping hundreds of files at a time, I won’t be jamming a tooth pick too often.

BTW is there a way to lock the Ctrl key down, other than a tooth pick 🙂

      Cheers and thanks, Bob

With the free TeraCopy app you can select multiple files/folder and copy to multiple folders.
The app will build a copy queue of ‘copy jobs’ and run uninterrupted.

TeraCopy is the fastest copy app on Windows (or Mac)

Fire up Sticky Keys on your PC.
Press the Shift key 5 times to turn it on. Same to turn it off.

      cheers, Paul

Select a single file and then press Ctrl + A to select everything else in the folder.

Well for now I have found a  solution thanks to Paul T and Sticky Keys. I press the Shift key 5 times to fire up Sticky keys and then press the Ctrl key twice. I can then click on all the files to be copied and then move them to the appropriate folder. Voila job done.

      Cheers Bob

How do I mark this as Resolved? Seems a bit ambiguous. I’m sure when somebody explains it will be obvious
