It would be good if someone could develop a program/app that tested for common security fails in webcams (or any IOT device) that are mentioned in the article. At least it would highlight to non computer literate people what they needed to do even if it means getting a paid expert to help

Not much point in testing if there is no consequence for the manufacturer. A few less people buying the unit because of lax security is no match for saving $1 in manufacturing.
