When there are pending updates to downloads there is no ‘check for updates’ button.
Searching the net for way to run ‘check for updates’ manually gave 2 ways :

Windows Powershell which requires downloading and installing Module PSWindowsUpdate (which I don’t want)
Windows CMD : UsoClient StartScan which does nothing.

Is there anything I am missing ?

wushowhide.diagcab uses Windows Update to check for updates.

        See #2000297.

by the way, you can initiate WU scan (in order for the changes to take effect) without clicking “Check for updates” button

just close Settings page and simply run powershell command:
        Start-WUScan

you can also run it from command prompt:
        powershell -noprofile -exec bypass -c “$r= Start-WUScan”

        Also see #2016748.

Just ran powershell -noprofile -exec bypass -c “$r= Start-WUScan”
No change in Windows Update check date.
          Same result after running wushowhide.

The easiest way I’ve found to check for updates and hide them is WUMgr. It can be downloaded here:

        https://github.com/DavidXanatos/wumgr/releases/tag/v1.1

You want the WuMgr_v1.1b.zip file which is unzipped prior to use.

I ran wumgr. I want to Run Windows Update and see the check date/hour changed and the pending downloads (which are hidden) removed.

“Saved” by the scheduled run of Windows Update 🙂
