GuestI have windows 10 Home 1709, 16299.371 and i can get to the public/private settings in the settings. Go to settings, Network and Internet, wifi, manage known networks, click on your known network and select properties. Under Network Profile cheoose public or private. This is how I did it. I don’t think you can do it from the regular control panel anymore or at least I haven’t found a way.

AskWoody PlusExtensive documentation on multiple methods here:

Seems like I used the “Make this PC Discoverable” option recently.

AskWoody LoungerI usually go into the HomeGroup settings, and if you’re on a Public network, it will show a warning that “you cannot access HomeGroups under a Public network, click here to change to Private” and it does it for you.
Of course in the SCU, they removed HomeGroups, so now you have to resort to other methods.

AskWoody LoungerThe easiest and quickest way in 1709 (16299.334) is to right click on the Internet icon in the systray and choose Open Network and Internet Settings. That takes you to the Status page where you click on Change Connection Properties. That shows you your current Network Profile where you can change from private to public or the other way.
Right there also is where you set it to a metered connection (which I hope we have all done. I plan to keep 1709 for the rest of the year so I don’t have to hassle with the loss of Home Group).

ManagerI think there is a problem with this setting. On several computers with Windows 10 Version 1709 Build 16299.371, I have no Network Profile setting under Connection Properties for Ethernet or Wi-Fi (and no way I can find to select Private or Public without resorting to PowerShell.)
