How to fix Protected System Files when SFC fails?

I have tried to install Windows 7 SP1, but System Files Checker (SFC.exe) tells if found some errors and can’t fix them. How may I fix this? I also am told my MS Update I can’t install the newest NVIDIA graphics driver set, either.

MS Tech told me to do a Custom Install?

Is there a program to copy user data and all programs in the Programs Files and Programs Files (x86) so I don’t need to reinstall everything?

I read you can extract files from install.win on the Windows 7 Install DVD. How to proceed?

If you want to preserve your applications and settings as well as your personal files, you can give a repair install of Windows 7 a go. Check this SevenForums tutorialon how to do a Windows 7 repair install. Be sure to read all the material as there are cautions that need to be noted. Also, it is advisable to back up your personal files before doing the repair install ‘just in case’.

When you used SFC, did you run it as administrator.?

Yes, I did. The setup file for Service Pack 1 showed I had some numeric error code (can’t recall). I then ran a SP1 Readiness Tool. Didn’t help at all.

Hello… I can offer that i have had problems with Nvidia Drivers as well (fail to install ).Your Best bet would go to the “Nvidia” web site,Nvidia Download and download the required driver for your card. Save it someplace so you can use it without doing the download thing again .Once you have it … There are several ways to proceed, the choice is up to you. This is how i do it…
1. Take a full image backup … put it in a safe place.
2. Take ownership of the “Temp ” folder C:>Users>your pc name>AppData>Local>Temp.
3.Run Nvidia Program as an Administrator
4.If this fails with an error message… i then completely remove Nvidia.. reverting back to the basic native VGA Drivers … This will probably “mess up” your screen resolution…(don’t panic ) at this point with all vestiges of Nvidia gone i then run the new Nvidia program… If this fails post back for the more drastic version.:cheers: Regards Fred

PS: I will probably take a “Wompin” for saying this …but unless your a serious “Gamer” and your System (graphics wise) is working… you don’t ever need to update your Nvidia Graphics drivers..I run on several of my OS’s the oldest Nvidia Drivers available, and the only problems that i have encountered was installing the “New and Improved” versions… that’s a call only you can make

I agree with Fred about the graphics driver. When Windows 7 was first released graphics drivers were being updated frequently with fixes that were critical to the new OS. Now, if what you have is working well there is no particular need to update the graphics driver. I recommend you read the release notes and if you are not affected by the problems being fixed don’t worry about it.

I have just updated my Nvidia Display Drivers, done with my AV disabled (Avira) & install ‘run as administrator’. Nae bother.
