I had the Quick Access tile on my Start Menu. See “Quick Access tile on Start Menu.JPG”
Then I right-clicked on the tile and unpinned it. But, I want to get it back again.

When I go to the Apps list in the Start Menu, Quick Access is there, but when I right-click on it, this is what I get. There is no choice to ‘Pin to Start’. See “Right-click on Quick Access in Apps list.JPG”

When I click on ‘Open file location’, it takes me to where a shortcut to Quick Access is: See “location of Quick Access shortcut.JPG”

When I right-click on the Start Menu>Programs>Quick Access shortcut, there is no option in the drop-down menu to ‘Pin to Start’. See “right-click on Quick Access shortcut in Start Menu-Programs.JPG”

How do I get Quick Access pinned to the Start Menu again?

How to restore quick access folders is part of this link. I haven’t tried it, but winaero stuff is usually solid.

My question is not about Quick Access folders. It is about getting the Quick-Access Tile onto the Start Menu. I finally figured it out – simplest of solutions, which didn’t occur to me right away, but should have: right-click on Quick Access at the top of the Navigation Pane, and select ‘Pin to start’!! DUH!!

This puts a Quick Access tile on the Start Menu under a Name group header, but it is stuck where it landed and it won’t move.

So, now the question is: once it pops up on the Start Menu, how can you make it move and stay in a new spot on the Start Menu? I’ve tried resizing the tiles to make room for it, tried moving it to various places, opening up space for it among a set of tiles, etc, etc. The new location to which it is dragged is rejected and it springs back to where it first landed.

I was having the same problem with a new tile that would not stay put and was snapping back to it’s first landing spot yesterday.  In my case the quickest solution was to make all the tiles in the particular row in which I wanted to place new tile all the same size including the new tile.

          same-size

I don’t every recall having this issue with the start menu before.  Mixing different sized tiles in the same row did not cause issues.

My question is not about Quick Access folders. It is about getting the Quick-Access Tile onto the Start Menu.

Thanks for making this clear.  I was in a hurry earlier and thinking that insuring the folders were right would straighten out the snap back issue.  Admittedly, I don’t use Quick Access.

Changing the size of the tiles has worked for me in the past, too.

But this time, not. All of the tiles in the Windows Folders namegroup are small now. And so is the Quick Access tile to be moved. There are 14 small spots in the Windows Folders namegroup where it could move to. But, none of those 14 spots will accept the to-be-moved tile. It springs back. I’ve even tried moving it to other namegroups, but it also springs back.

That to-be-moved tile was once in that Windows Folders namegroup when all of the tiles were medium. But, I accidentally deleted the Quick Access tile from its place in that namegroup. Even though I have it back now, it won’t move to where it had been.

I’ve waited a couple of days now to see if there is some cache somewhere that has to be refreshed first, but so far, the situation is the same — still stuck where it first landed.

Ensure the Quick access tile is the same size at all the others, then try dragging the boarders of the Start Menu to their maximum limit.

Of course this shouldn’t be necessary, but I’m scratching my head also.

That said, unless this is because of some hardware issue, doing a Windows repair from an ISO file on your C: drive and choosing to keep your settings and apps would almost certainly fix it.  I’m finishing one on my laptop now as I type this.  They work very well.

I always have  a fresh Macrium image backup at the ready if something goes wrong.
