How difficult is it to replace my desktop HHDs to a single SSD?

My 2010 desktop (Dell XPS8100) has survived all updates from Win7 to Win10 and is still running fine, but the disks are quite noisy / slow. Am considering to move over to SSD. Crucial recommends theirย  CT2000MX500SSD1 (2TB, SATA III, 2.5 inch), which is available here.

A problem may be that the system has 2xHDDs that act as one logical drive, in a RAID set up. I have partitioned in 3 drives: C: for system and programs, D: for data and E: for downloads and temporary storage. I have full back-ups (Macrium).

Is it possible to remove RAID without a complete re-install?
    If so, how?
Or could/should I may be move over to 2 SSDs, 1TB each?

Any help appreciated/ Greetings from rainy Amsterdam

You can replace the HDDs with a single SSD by cloning the disks, but you may have trouble booting from the RAID configured system.

      There are 2 options.

      1.
      Create a Windows recovery USB.
      Clone the disks.
Remove all disks and turn off the RAID controller in BIOS.
Connect the SSD and try booting.
If it won’t boot, boot from the USB and repair.

      2.
Get / buy a backup utility with “restore to bare metal” capability.
Backup the existing to an external USB disk.
Turn off RAID and install the new.
Boot from the the backup recovery USB and restore.

Veeam free backup will do a bare metal restore.

      cheers, Paul
